How long will I need to see you for?
This depends upon the problem you are seeking help for. I only provide screening and assessment at this time so a one-off appointment is usually required for a screening. An assessment may be several sessions over a few weeks.
How long are sessions?
Sessions are usually 50 minutes for a screening and 2-3 hours for assessment appointments of which there may be more than one.
When can I come?
Due to prior commitments, I am only able to offers sessions during Thursday weekday evening (from 6pm by appointment).
Where do sessions take place?
I currently use a consulting room at Albion Consultancy, in Derngate Northampton. There is on-street pay and display parking (please bring coins) available a short distance away as well as several multi storey car parks with 2 hours free parking. Various bus routes pass by on either side of the main road and the train station is within a 20 minute walking distance (Northampton station).
What happens if I cannot come to an appointment I’ve booked?
Cancellations made more than 48 hours before the appointment will not be charged. Cancellations made with less than 48 hours’ notice will incur the usual session charge, as I have to book clinic space to complete our consultation.
What are the rules about confidentiality?
I usually provide a brief summary to your GP and/or referrer about the work undertaken. This, however can usually only happen with your consent, so if you prefer that no information is shared this is usually fine. The only exception to this is if you disclose information which could imply that you, or someone close to you, is at risk; in this eventuality, I have a professional and legal responsibility to share this information. Efforts would always be made to discuss this with you prior to liaison with other agencies.
What can I do if I’m unhappy about any aspect of my psychological work?
Firstly, please feel free to discuss this with me as I am always interested to hear honest feedback and adapt my work accordingly. If this doesn’t resolve matters, you can contact the HCPC at http://www.hcpc-uk.org.
When would it not be appropriate to work with me?
I am not able to offer a crisis service, so if you are unable to keep yourself safe between sessions and/or are regularly engaging in very risky self-harming behaviours, it would usually be recommended that you seek input from your local NHS service. Please discuss this with me if you’re unsure whether it is relevant for you.
